Advanced practical training for coastal and offshore passages by day and night, with each student planning and skippering a longer passage.

Focuses on detailed pilotage, passage planning and command of a yacht in more demanding conditions.

Coastal Skipper shorebased theory is recommended beforehand.

What you need

  • Sailing experience and confidence at around Day Skipper level (skippering by day in familiar waters).
  • Tidal sailing experience and sound boat-handling under sail and power.

Recommended first

  • Coastal Skipper / Yachtmaster shore-based theory before the practical.

Before you join

  • Suggested minimum: 15 days at sea, including 2 days as skipper, 300 nautical miles and 8 night hours.
  • Navigation to Coastal Skipper theory standard and practical ability to Day Skipper standard.
  • Minimum age: 17.
