Required (by law) for all those who wish to operate a VHF marine radio and for those wishing to take a Yachtmaster exam, this one day course covers all the procedures that must be adhered to when using the VHF unit, including the Digital Selective Calling option which is found on most modern yachts. The VHF unit is your primary means by which you can request assistance in an emergency situation, therefore it is vital that you know how to use it properly.
Topics covered include: the correct use of VHF equipment, distress, emergency and medical assistance procedures, use of correct frequencies, digital selective calling (DSC), Glabal Maritime and Distress Safety System (GMDSS), Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons (EPIRB), and Search and rescue Transponders (SART). A short written exam completes this one day course.
